President Laura Hyde called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.  A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the August minutes.

Manager/Pro

Tim reported the tennis program is back on schedule.  There are several new classes; sign ups are posted on the bulletin board.

Junior team tennis has started with one team under 18 and 1 team under 14.  There will be an exchange with Courthouse November 1 in Salem.  Tim will be taking some 6-8 year old kids to Salem Tennis and Swim October 31 for a Halloween party.

Tim is planning a ladies “pro/am” for 3.5 and up for Friday, October 24.  It costs $10 to play and you keep track of your wins.  Look for a signup sheet soon.

The pro shop is underway.  Orders have been confirmed and should be coming in within a week or two.  Tim will have demo racquets, balls, grips, sample outfits, and other tennis-related items.  Catalogs will be available to order from.  Tim will talk with Dale about getting this info on the Web site.

Tim is also working on a Wilson demo night.  Details will follow.

New members Candice and Dean Elliot were approved for a trial family membership.

Tim asked for input on what the Club should do for the St. Mary’s auction.  Last year the club gave a 3-month trial family membership with the option to continue it.  Tim also threw in a racquet and a private lesson.  It was decided to provide 4 punch cards with 8 classes for use anytime for cardio tennis lessons.  Tim will be reimbursed for the time spent doing this.

Dick remarked that quite a bit has been accomplished around the Club.  The pro shop has been painted, and the new nets are in and will be up soon.  The old nets will be repaired and used as backups.  Volunteers are needed for small projects around the Club.  Apparently the ATC computer has a virus that will need to be addressed.

Pool project

In December of 2007, Congress passed the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, which requires all main drain covers meet the ANSI/ASME A112.19.8 standard for main drain anti-entrapment safety.  The law mandates that all public pools provide entrapment protection for their main drains that meet federal guidelines.  These changes must be made by December 20, 2008.  With this in mind, Dick requested quotes for resurfacing the pool.

·         Emerald Swimming Pools of Eugene’s proposal included the safety measure.  Estimates ranged from $14,100 to 21,000.  At some point in time, we will have to replace the old pipes at a cost of $34,000.  We should start putting money in the bank for this.

·         A-1 Pool & Spa Service did not address the safety act.  Their estimate was $27,600.

·         We also received several recommendations from Gus Arzner.  We should be able to do a lot of the work ourselves.  We are waiting to hear back from Gus.

Greg reported on the outdoor court repairs.  Brothers Concrete has ground out the ripples.  We need to purchase bags of asphalt and clean and fill in the ½ inch cracks.  A bag of asphalt runs from $50-60.

Tennis Committee

Dick reported there are 4 teams from ATC competing in fall leagues:  Men’s and Women’s senior 4.0 teams, a mixed 6.0 team and a mixed 7.0 team.  Several ATC members are playing on Timberhill’s super senior team.  Results are posted on the bulletin board and on the Web site.

Grounds

Tim reported the keyless entry locks should be done by October 5th.  Doors will automatically lock at 12:00 pm.

The indoor light sensors will be completed soon.  A quote is in the works.  This will automatically turn court lights off at 12:00pm.

Tile project:  The upstairs border has been laid down but still needs to be glued in place.  This should be completed by the last week of September.

Laura suggested that it was time to reconsider changing the automatic door lock time and court timer to an earlier time, possibly 10:30 pm.  The new membership handbook and roster are being worked on, and it would be an appropriate time to do this so the correct times could be put in the handbook.  The Club would be closed from 10:30 pm to 5:00 am.  Dick will check the court signup sheets to see how late the courts are in use.

Greg reported the property line survey is ongoing.  They need to find the property markers.

Financial Report

Cash in Bank                                                      $21,288

Cash in Ed Jones Money Market                 52,933

Total Current Assets                                       $74,221

Swim Committee

Dale reported he gave Brianna a gift certificate for her good work over the summer.

The pool area needs to be cleaned up.  Chairs and windscreens need to be put away.  The shed needs cleaning out.  The shower line needs to be drained and the water turned off.  A small work party is set for October 18.  This will be a volunteer basis only and is not in lieu of the yearly maintenance fee.

Dick and Tim will check on dumpster prices.

Board Business

Laura requested the annual membership meeting be changed to Thursday, December 11, at 7:00 pm.

Laura reported that she is working with the Democrat-Herald to post the ATC cardio classes in the Community Calendar section.  Due to this, Tim will need to have an assistant to cover the cardio classes when he is gone.

The BPA forester is working with Garland Nursery to select 6-8 low maintenance trees to replace the ones along the back parking lot.

Remember anything that needs to go on the ATC Web site needs to be sent to Dale Burrows now.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 pm.

Minutes submitted by club secretary Carol Wood.
