Pro/Manager:  Travis Lewin (excused)

ATC Staff:  Candice Elliott and Brianna Trower

Members:  Andrew Koll

President Laura Hyde called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm.

The July minutes were amended to correct two spelling errors; the amended minutes were approved.

Pro

Candice reported on the membership.  Greg and Candice have talked to several people who are interested in joining the Club.

It was suggested having copies of our membership application and club flyers available in the downstairs area.

Candice showed a demo design for the club banner.  A 3’ by 10’ banner would cost $195.  A motion was made and passed to get the 3’ by 10’ banner.

Candice has made a small ATC Face book group and has five people already ask to join.  This can be linked to the ATC Web site.  The Board gave Candice approval to continue this.

Pool

The pool has had numerous problems with total dissolved solids (TDS), which create the cloudy water issues.  The pool was shut down August 11 by the City Health inspector.  The cloudiness may be due in part to the new chlorinators.  The old chlorine tablets were 60% chlorine with the other 40% contributing to the total dissolved solids.  Jason and Brianna are working with Andy at Albany Stoves and Spas, who recommends hooking up the old chlorinators or buying new ones at a cost of $189 each plus $75 in labor.

Jason reported on a quote from Custom Pools, Inc., for resurfacing the pool.  Total cost for labor, materials, and additional flow meters, hand rails, gauge, and installing the grate cover, is $17,349.  Jason will check references for Custom Pool before proceeding any farther.

The City of Albany was very helpful with the draining of the pool.  Brianna has sent the Fire Department a thank you note.  Laura will write a thank you note on behalf of the Board to the Public Works Department.  Many thanks go to Dick, Greg, Brianna, and Jason for all their hard work.

There was discussion on whether we should keep the pool.  Points brought up in the discussion were:

·        Summer members help pay for the pool.

·        Swim lessons bring in money.  We do need to be more proactive in the community to organize swim lessons better.  It was suggested we get WSI-certified instructors for the lessons.

·        Closing the pool sends a negative message to the community.

Bottom line, we will continue to operate the pool.

Dick mentioned the pool and plumbing is 30-40 years old and the pool would have to be torn up to replace the plumbing at a cost of around $34,000.  Jason will ask Custom Pools about what the price would be to check the pipes and also check to see if lights in the pool are required.  Once this information has been gathered, the Board will make a decision on this.

A prorated refund due to the pool having to be closed has been approved for the summer members.  A notice will be sent to the summer members along with a comment that the Board is planning options and repairs to the pool; this will be done after September.

Swim lessons will finish next week.  Several parents have asked for money back for the missed days due the cloudiness and the pool being shut down.  The last (4th) session will go longer to make up for some of the lost time.

The swim carnival is scheduled for September 3 from 1-4 pm.  A signup sheet will go up tomorrow.  All kids from the swim lessons are invited.

Tennis

Dick reported there are four ATC fall league teams:  men’s and women’s senior 4.0, a mixed 6.0 and a mixed 7.0 team.

Andrew voiced several concerns:

·        No club tournament or USTA tournaments

·        No junior team tennis this year

·        Outdoor courts look bad

Ball machine status:  Ken Baumgartner has offered to have several Wah Chang people look at the machine to see if they can fix it.  We can check for the price of a new one online.

Social Committee

Dale reported he has a committee, and they will be meeting soon.

Webcam update:  Greg and Andrew are looking into the components of a webcam system.  Greg is looking into a DVR with multiple ports that continually receives information where a schedule and motion sensors can be set and information is stored for 60 days.  Cost is $400, with the disk $150.  Andrew looked at a security-based system that runs continually, operates on the Ethernet where multiple cameras can be added and “real time” video can be watched on the Internet.  Total cost for four cameras is $2,000-$2,500.  Currently, only the front door is armed.  Three times this summer people have climbed over the fence and have been in the pool after hours.  Therefore, the system must be able to have good enough resolution to see faces.  Greg, Andrew, and Dale will continue to look into this and bring a proposal to the next Board meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:14 pm.

Minutes submitted by Club Secretary Carol Wood.
